The stadium is primarily a cricket and Australian Rules Football ground and is home to the state’s cricket teams, the Tasmanian Roar, the Tasmanian Tigers and the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League.

Originally built in 1931, Bellerive received a significant upgrade which was completed in 2003 which included a 6,000-seat Southern Grandstand, two members’ buildings and indoor cricket nets. It is now undergoing further development due for completion in 2014, which will see the capacity increase in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
